Just came across this 72,one of the most substantial MADs I've come across personally

That's pretty MAD. Too bad it didn't go one of the other ways and remove some of the design elements.

If it was a misaligned die, shouldn't the rim of the reverse appear to be normal?

Wouldnt a strike that removes elements be an offcenter strike and not a Mad?

Nope. An off-center would remove design elements on both sides of the coin. You can see on my coin that the reverse still has all of the design elements, albeit weak where the MAD part was on the obverse. An off center will look like this:

Nice! 1970's had many Misaligned die strikes. I have tons of them in my collection!

    Most of mine are 80s coins...especially 82

The most errors I find are in the 82-84 range. CUDs, off centers, MADs, etc...

I haven't seen many myself. The newest cent CUD I have found is 1998(normal area for CUD's and not very large) and the newest overall is 2015 quarter (barely a CUD).

Nice @furryfrog02 ,that 98 is neat for sure. I've only been able to find shield cents with the tiny cud above the shield, which i usually toss tbh

FYI, if it is above the shield, that wouldn't be a cud. That would be a die chip. CUD's extend from the rim of the coin inward.
