It is a waffled dime and some webbing!!! And again I've always wanted a piece of some webbing! I got two pieces of it. So happy. And the dime! It got cancelled because of it being a blank. I thought that was cool.
Nice. There was something wrong with the blank and that is why the mint cancelled it. I don't know what it could be but that's the reason.
There have been examples of coins struck on the webbing.. Those are called bowtie strikes. Very rare and very valuable. http://www.error-ref.com/_bowtie_clips_/
I thought that the blank is the error that's why they canceled it. Hmm. Thanks for notifying me. I'll look on it. That is so cool the coin can be struck on the webbing. That's another must have. But I can't afford it lol
Those are cool! My family and I visited the Philadelphia mint a couple of years ago and was hoping they would have these in the gift shop. I was disappointed when they didn't. I've not ever seen them at any of the coin shows I've been to.
Thanks. I was so happy he had them. I haven't seen them at no other coin shops. I haven't been to any coin shows though. it would be great to go to one one day.
They are meant to be destroyed not sold. Somehow they get in the hands of certain people and end up in ours hands
I know. I have a vague memory of visiting the Denver mint in the 90's and seeing waffled coins. I could be 100% wrong through.
I would think if it was jus a planchet instead of canceling it they would have thrown it back in the hopper to be struck. I saw a very cool canceled nickel and you could actually tell why it was canceled. It had a clamshell split it was a nickel struck on quarter or dime stock. Couldn't get the weight to determine witch but the was cool. I sill dont have a waffle coin
