What is this?

    I am new to coin collecting. I came across this wheat back penny which I think is 1958. I have no idea what is going on here, but you can see, faintly, the wheat on the back. Any information would be greatly appreciated. clearwheatfront.jpg clearwheatback.jpg

    That is a completely beat to heck cent. At this point, it really is nothing more than a small metal disk. Spend if you can.

    Has it been melted at some point? And look at the front, the number 8...how did that get stamped on the edge of the coin (at least I think that is part of an 8).

    It is just a horribly damaged cent, no way to say exactly how it got that way.
