Not quite enough for a hornets nest.

Meow has found this 1973d penny with the beginnings of a hornets nest. Since it is still a bit on the flat side, and does not exceed the relief of the devices around it; What would you call this?

I'll go with a worn die. Maybe a chip with wear on top of that.

Could be part of a die clash. Show a good photo of the entire coin.

BTW, talking about hornets, I spent some time in the ER last night because I got hit in the eye by a hornet or wasp. Not much fun.

In the eye! Mrrrrroow? Meow got stung by one in the ear before. It hurt. So is it hit, or is it really stung in the eye?

Some people say they sting and others say they bite. It was a sting or a bite. And, I am allergic to them.

Oooh that sounds bad. So you OK?
Meow took full coin shots, so here you go. Meow does not think there is anything to see in them.

    Well, Hornets sting. Dragonflies bite.

If you look directly to the right of the "hornets nest" I see what looks like another statue of Lincoln with part of a column. May be just an illusion. But, it could be an indicator of how this happened.

There is another such illusion just to the left of real statue.

Meow does not see that. So what is this, die clash, or die chip?

I am not qualified to make such a judgement. I can say what I see. Perhaps someone with more experience will help us out.
