I picked up a few interesting pieces at the Bellaire Coin Club show last weekend. I collect Roman Republic and cast bronze, so three of these I think I can attribute ok. Ionia, 5th cent. BC, Diobol, 0.87 grams, lion / Star ? I found several similar to this coin. LESBOS, 1/16 Stater, Silver 0.54 grams, Head of two confronted boars / Incuse square ????? I did not find a coin this small with a similar design. The seller called the obverse a head of nymph. I found a few examples on acsearch that were close, but the hair did not match. There were several names for the head: Wreathed head of youthful Dionsysos facing left Youthful head of Pan left, wreathed with ivy. Female head to l. with long hair bound in the neck and falling to shoulder. Female head to left Ivy-wreathed head of youthful Pan to left, with small horn and pointed animal ear. Wreathed head of Demeter or Kore right Head of nymph left Someone that knows the tiny coins, please help.
take a look at the current CNG e-auction 450, Lot 158: IONIA, Phokaia. Circa 387-326 BC. EL Hekte – Sixth Stater (10mm, 2.51 g). Wreathed head of young Pan left, wearing wreath of ivy; [seal below] / Quadripartite incuse square. Bodenstedt Em. 97. Scuff on obverse. Lot 157 is also similar.
