I would not doubt it on the grades, mine came back VF30. And I think the details on your coin look a little stronger. Sweet coins - all of the. Ahhh - you edited the post. Now it makes me look stupid - oh wait! I do that all on my own.
Not any more! Look again. Thanks for your comments. Something about these large cents turn me on! hya:
So you know, it's not the red that bothers me (which is corrosion, by the way) but the semi-unnatural blondish color indicitative of an old cleaning and subsequent retoning/recoloring. Both TPGs seem to let some of these coins in, and others they bag. As far as I can tell, NGC is more tolerant than PCGS -- but please understand I have no direct experience in submitting copper to TPGs and whatever insight I've gained is through discussions with fellow collectors and looking at a lot of slabbed copper. FWIW, here's my 1821, which has a similar look: It is slabbed XF 45 by NGC. And an 1818 that is raw and was purchased from Tom Reynolds: All of the above is offered as my humble opinion only, and hoping it helps...Mike
VF30. And your pictures are better than mine. The color are your two coins is more even than the one I posted, but I think the browns match. I am finding the more I learn about these, the less I buy off ebay - solely because of color or pictures. I have gotten several nice ones - this 1818 included - but it seems in the last few months nothing makes me take notice. The really nice ones it seems like the prices jump really quick. And thanks Catbert - I was just having some fun.
Update Updating this old thread to note that I did send in the 1822 to NGC and it did slab. It's in the mail and I'll post a guess the grade thread soon!
