hi everyone I am new to this web site, or really to any forum. I just started looking at coins at 56 and hoping you can help me. How would I know when to send my coin to PCGS to have it looked at. I have found coins with errors, but I got this in a roll yesterday. Thanks for looking Duke
Welcome to Coin Talk. In addition to the close ups, photos of both sides of the entire coin will help a lot in determining what you have. IMO from your photos it looks more like mechanical doubling rather than a doubled die. Here's a site to help: http://doubleddie.com/ Scroll down to "Worthless Doubling" to get an idea of what I'm saying. You can also look at "Doubled Die Listings" to see what a true Doubled Die looks like.
Also ask yourself if it's worth sending a quarter worth 25c to be slabbed costing $35 or more... at which point it's still worth just 25c.
Not all error or varieties are worth sending to anyone. Many are minor with no premium. Also PCGS and NGC do not just look at your coins. They attribute them. So even if they are not errors or varieties they will charge the grading and attribution fee which can get expensive.
