You have a normal 1972 cent minted in Philadelphia. There were 2,933,255,000 cents minted in Philly that year. Yours is not a doubled die. Worth 1 cent.
What is wrong with AMERICA on the reverse? Looks normal to me. Some things you have to realize, if there is an error, then every coin that error die struck has the same error. Which means there are around 200,000 and would have a name/ variety. Since there is no 1972 Reverse America variety, etc. Now, if you were the first person to discover an error, then the coin would be a "discovery" coin, the first known. Since this coin is over 45 years old, while possible, that is unlikely that no one ever spotted it before you. Coins take a tremendous pounding and that wear changes things. There's some toning on the reverse (colors) and AMERICA may be slightly flattened from wear.
Nothing is wrong. For future reference, it would help immensely if you told us where you think you see an error. Helps us to focus our attention.
Ok...I think coming on here was a bad idea...everybody is so mean...I have several bags of coins...the america isn't flat but I'm not using a magnifying glass just my phone.. when people hold it everyone is asking why America looks odd...but it's hard to show true details without a magnifying glass...but this is my only and last thread...thank you and goodbye!
A M E R I C A Looked correct to me even without my glasses on. Don't need a magnifying glass or usb microscope to see things
I know you are all professionals I just had a question...I've had these coins for a long time and never thought to look at any of them...I also have wheat coins...but the way this looks is odd...
Sorry but your coin isn’t anything special. If you came here looking for confirmation that your coin is special, then you came to the wrong spot. If you came to learn, then welcome. We are more than happy to help as long as you come with an open mind. Nobody is being “mean”. Just telling he truth.
Learning is asking questions...if you don't know something, you ask right?...its not to get replies with exclamation marks... that's not teaching...me and my husband work...so if there is something that would bring in extra money, why not ask? I'm just gonna take it in person to the coin shop near me...thank you anyway
There really is no reason to take it anywhere. Your coin is a common cent. Just like I said originally. You see the 72 on my avatar? THAT is worth some money. Even then, it's not worth a ton (~150-200 dollars). Most, if not all, of us here work too so I/we can totally understand the interest in making an extra buck or two. That being said, there is a lot to learn if you want to actually make money at this. 9.9 times out of 10 you will not find it in your pocket change. Just want to clear that up if you are thinking this could be a get rich quick kind of deal. I strongly encourage you to stay around while and learn. Read some of the older threads. Ask some questions about coins you may have. Just have some thick skin and be prepare to be let down more often than not. That's just how the game goes.
If you want honest, constructive feedback on your coin, you will need to take much better/clearer pictures. The picture you posted is very blurry/grainy. That won't be much help to anyone trying to help you.
Getting a few !!!!!!!! is nothing compared to the responses you'll get at your local B&M if you don't like the answer there. If you've been reading "Strike It Rich With Pocket Change" or listening to the fools on BoobTube, then you have to know that many knowledgeable collectors can spend most of their lives searching coins and never, never ever find a valuable coin. They have to buy them!!!! Chris
Hi I do not think everyone is cruel.....I had a bad experience the first time I tried to post, but do know that everyone is not mean but there are some that are.....We get what we need and leave the cruel words of others where they should be....LEFT ON THEY POST.....IGNORE and KEEP PUSHING....I do feel you
Wasn't being mean just answered the question. Don't take a truthful response so personal. People ask these questions as if it is the first time they have ever looked at a coin. If you can't handle the blunt truth, maybe you should ask the tree hugger coin site where every participating post gets a trophy for trying. One more Christmas card I won't be getting.
Not true.. We are a lovely group just because a person owns a coinshop that does not mean that they are knowledgeable in mint errors and varieties. Good luck.
@Trella Davis Just read the entire thread. Sorry you feel the way you do but please stick around. Even if you don't post but just lurk you'll learn a lot. It takes time for everyone to get to know you and for you to get to know us. As for AMERICA looks wrong, since you didn't state why I can only quess as did other members. I see nothing strange about AMERICA but then I thought about you're being new to coins. I looked again and all I really see is the coloring. If that is what you are referring to then it's called toning. There is a small amount of colorful toning in that area but toning is normal. Some coins tone an ugly black while others tone like a rainbow. Others do not tone. Many factors affect the surface of a coin which creates many different scenarios. Again, if you have an interest in coins this is a great place to learn. You may not always hear what you want but for the most part the members will give you the truth about coins. At times, we do have a warped sense of humor.
