Heck, even if they get me banned from every auction house, I still won't send them payment twice for that coin.

Very unprofessional service. I can't recommend them based on my experience.

The dollar amount should not matter. I have sold loads of $5 coins and shipped within minutes or hours of receiving them. It could be a really dumb mistake on their part, thinking such a small order isn't worthy of their attention. They should not offer a coin for sale if that is the case (and I am not saying that it is, I know nothing about this other than was Oz has posted).

In my personal life I have come to know that aside from treating everyone as the same as one should, one never knows if the buyer behind that tiny order is a poor retiree (and nothing wrong with that, they often are more serious collectors than others) or some very famous multi-billionaire. And yes, I have sold to both types. Does it really matter? No. A seller should treat a buyer the same no matter what the transaction amount might actually be or how much money they have in their bank account. We all want to be treated with the respect that is our due as fellow collectors. That concept should be enough, but sadly is obviously is not.

Sorry to hear about the crappy service Sallent. In my experience so far, there are some sellers of ancient coins who do not give a damn about customer service because they know that if they have some nice coins coming up for sale people will bid regardless. I've also experienced being treated as an unimportant customer for a low value purchase.

If I were you I would get a PayPal claim against the coin before the three months are up.

24 hours after sending 3 emails, providing proof of payment, and calling twice....still no response. Too bad it's too late to get a refund from PayPal. At this point I don't even care if they ever send me the coin I paid for, or ban me after they kept my money and didn't send me anything...I just want to be rid of them.

Good news! They finally realized that I paid them 2 months ago and have now promised to send me my coin. Yay!

Not exactly much of an apology but I'll take it. All I wanted was for the nightmare to end and for the coin to be delivered, and looks like it will finally happen. Will keep you guys updated as to when I receive it.

Based on this experience, do you think you'll be shopping at Bertolami in the future?

I'm glad your coin will be on its way soon!

To balance the Bertolami tale a bit, I got the Banti Roman Republican (red books) set in that June auction and they shipped them, plus another small book, to Ireland from the UK for £20.05! I think it must have cost them more than that, but they arrived safe and sound and I certainly wasn't complaining :D

I am totally out of place here. In the last week we have had posts about a dealer selling fakes and not shipping a coin that was paid for. We hear about them ignoring inquiries. Then we have to ask if we are planning to do it all again? I am really, totally out of place here.

I should have put a smiley face after my question, it was meant tongue-in-cheek.

Thanks for sharing @Sallent now I know I won’t be bidding any with this auction house. Just not worth the trouble.

I bought some books from a couple of months ago. Transaction not as smooth as other auction houses but I received them.

Cautionary note. During that auction a book I really wanted was about to come up. I moved my mouse to enter a bid and the battery on the mouse went dead. I could not bid and missed the chance to buy the book at 1/4 of the price it is listed for elsewhere.

    Change out your batteries periodically!
