Woohoo! I'm 2/3 so far, and missed the Merc by +1 FSB.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I'll admit, I was a little torn on this one. I ultimately went 53 based on the quality of the luster, but the wear is 50. Honestly, I think 50 is a fair grade for this coin.

Late to the dance, as usual. I'd have gone with XF-45.

I’ve seen as much or more luster on XF-45’s

To me, it lacked some of the devices definition of an AU coin. I thought the obverse was a little bit “soft” on details, hence the XF 45 guess. Nice coin, though. Love the toning, and eye appeal in general.

I thought AU details. I was thinking it had been cleaned because the toning is only around the stars. I can see AU 50 if it hasn't been cleaned, though.

Good explanation. I know what you mean, but I still think the surfaces are pretty much original and the coin has enough luster to make AU50/53.

Damn that's one beautiful coin!!! Far as I'm concerned, that's all I need to know. Where did you get that?

I went 55, figuring some of that high-point flatness was likely due to strike. I've seen holdered 58s with more wear than this one has. I'd buy that as a 50 all day long.
