Man I'd just love to show you guys this one but it got away Worked at the coin shop yesterday and business was brisk on the buying end. The owner had one transaction all tallied up and had me finish the paperwork and payment. So I go to the drawer to pay the guy and spot 2 older style twenties. I put them on the bottom of the stack for later perusal. The rush finally ends and we settle down for some lunch. I told the owner I wanted to look at those notes. Gotta do that with him as it's HIS money you know. No problem he says but alas someone had used them as a payout I did notice one was a 1985 in at least XF. He asked me why I wanted a look and I told him about the Feds plan to destroy such notes. This was news to him! He asked where I got the information so I threw in a plug for the fine folks at CoinTalk Now at least he'll be looking. Seems I'll be seing some old style notes and if I can afford them will snatch them up. On a side note we had a nice 1993 $100 note go through on Saturday. The lady that was helping us knows nothing about coins or paper basically but she DID bring it to his attention. He had me look at it and we let it go. I couldn't afford it and they are hard to get a premium on (I'd have to turn it real fast at this point). Bright side is at least they're looking now. clembo
it does suck that the $20's got away .. but it did do some good.. the owner will now be on the lookout! at least its a bit on the bright side
Hey, even though those two twenties got away, odds are they went to a collector. Maybe we will see a thread boasting about the new old style $20's that someone recieved in change at the local coin shop.
Agreed I have to say, it seems as though most coin shops arent really too interested in the older style notes, serial numbers, or start notes. For example, I bought a 5$ Red Seal Star note, for the same price as all the others... They dont really seem to care.
That's what struck me as odd guys. My dealer/boss does know currency pretty well. He bought some Barr notes the other day. He also knows I'm stornger on modern so when it comes in he has me look at it. Nailed some consecutive 1976 twos for him last week. Heck, he used to have me look at stuff that walked in when I was a customer if I happened to be there. As mentioned though at least he knows now. clembo
Clembo... That must be hard to see all that come in and not be able to take advantage of it... How is the job front looking for you on your profession? Hope all is well with you... RickieB
Man, that bites. Better luck next time I guess! I agree with DJP, hopefully they went to a collector. :thumb: Phoenix
The cold hard reality is that it may take a true shortage to convince dealers to pay a premium for anything later than 1974 that is in less than GEM UNC condition. It stings everytime I have to let one go because I just don't have enough on me to buy them all.
