This quarter has a checkered or almost polka dot like pattern. I assumed it had been pressed with a vice, but the pattern is only on one side of the coin and it doesnt seem to have deep impressions. You can see the pattern going in and out of focus when tilting the coin back and forth into the light. It is very noticeable most of the time but almost completely dissapears when shining a bright light to it. The reverse side seems completely normal. Ive been searching online and cant seem to find anything at all about it. Does anyone know?
Someone put a object over it with holes exposing just the areas that are darker (toned) and created that appearance. Not a Mint Error of any kind. Worth? 25 Cents Right @lordmarcovan ?
There was one shown here not long ago like this. It appeared the quarter was encased in a lacquer or acrylic coating that had this golf ball pattern to it. There must have been some state quarter display that encased these quarters in this stuff and they are now finding their way back into circulation..... OP, it does appear odd, but Paddy is correct. This isn't a US Mint error at all.
