    I'm not sure if it's a proof coin or not.

    No. The D mint mark tells you it was made in Denver. They did not make proofs.

    I did not even look at the coin and was able to answer correctly; as stated above in 1962 the US Mint did not make proof coins anywhere but in Philadelphia (i.e., no mint mark).
