May I suggest one of Wayne G. Sayles' books? It's my understanding that if you purchase one from him directly, he'll sign the book. The first one of the series is a general overview of the field of ancient collecting then each other volume deals with a more specific area like Roman, Greek, Roman Provincial, Non-Classical cultures, and Byzantine (I think I got all the categories). I would purchase one from an area or theme I was interested in. All are very reasonably priced and readily available.
If I win can I tell you which charity I'll donate it to? You can send it directly to them and advise them how to maximize their gain.
@Treashunt is on a lucky streak! @Sallent- I've put "closed" in your title but have not locked the thread to replies.
Here is a good place to start as far as identification goes: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/trajan/i.html
Trajan AR Denarius, issued 103-111 AD. Obv: IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P, laureate bust right, aegis on far shoulder Rev: SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI, Genius, naked except for cloak around waist, standing left, holding cornucopiae while sacrificing out of a patera over a lighted altar. RIC 183. Glad you like it. It is a nice coin. A bit of a weak strike on the reverse, but a great portrait of Emperor Trajan. PS: Sorry about the beat up airtite I sent it in, but I wanted something hard to protect the coin, and I didn't have anything nicer. Feel free to transfer the coin to a paper envelope or 2x2, or nicer airtite. Also, it's ok to hold the coin. Won't do it any damage or reduce it's value. Ancient coins are ok to hold. Also, please feel free to do a write up on the coin, or not. It's up to you.
Non problem with the airtite, I like it plenty anyway. In fact it looks great in there. Many more thanks.
