Iv had this coin for a little bit and 2 coin shops have told me that this is an authentic 1909-S VDB but I was curious what anyone else thinks
Looks all wrong to me. I didn't look at the diagnostics of the actual coins, but your "S" does not look like a US Mint S mint mark. Edit: but it’s worth at least validating. ANACS would be a cheap option for that.
The "B" in VDB looks wrong to me. In all of the ones I've seen the center bar slants down to the right. Yours doesn't appear to.
I can't decide from the images. It's possible the S is just damaged. I would send it to ANACS, just for fun.
If I had it for a longtime or inherited, I would send it in with a fair chance it is real. If I had just purchased it, I would return it as the identification points do tend to show some discoloration that are suspicious to me. ANACs would be an inexpensive starting place. IMO. Jim
Worst looking S I've seen. Obviously if it's a genuine 1909-S VDB, it's worth getting certified. On the other hand, . . . .
I'm not convinced that this is real or genuine but I only have a photo to go by. I would suggest you send to ANACS for verification and grading. That is the least expensive way to know for sure. Welcome to CT.
Welcome to Coin Talk. Check the mint mark and initials VDB against this: https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/5217/Counterfeit-1909-S-VDB-Lincoln-Cents/ Or this https://www.pcgs.com/news/counterfeit-vs-authentic-1909-s-vdb-lincoln-cents I can't tell from your photos. Take it out of the holder and try to post clearer photos with a closeup of the mint mark and VDB. Thank you.
