Paid $70, great deal for this coin in my opinion.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Deep scratches on a cleaned VF coin with green corrosion on the reverse.... man, I would have passed on that. You overpaid by a lot. Return it if possible.

    It's a real problem coin. It's worth $40 on a good day.

I wouldn’t pay $10 for it, but rather save the money for a problem-free Bustie.

@CoinBlazer you’re aware no serious collector would even be remotely interested in this coin...? It’s not O-114 which is the only R5 variety for the year. So why did you buy it?

Point being is that I never closely examined the coin for anything besides the scratch marks which I really don't mind. But I am now aware of the defects in the coin. Lesson? Look closer next time and do a bit more research.

I think it's worth more than $10, but that deep cut cross in the focal point of the coin is a killer. When the problem is willful damage, the size of the defect is magnified. Add to that, it's been cleaned.

On a separate but related topic, does anyone know of a company that makes capsules for these half dollars? (Pardon the slight topic digression - hope it's okay.) I can't seem to find capsules that fit. These are slightly larger than the Seated Liberty halves.

    JP's Corner sells these. https://www.jpscorner.com/collections/ring-type-air-tite-coin-holders

You have to use a conventional coin flip, or you have order custom made Capital Pastic holders with a custom made opening. I am not aware of an "open stock" item.

Are you looking for Lighthouse everslabs?
    https://www.lighthouse.us/rectangular-coin-capsules-everslab.html
Everslabs are self-slab holders, very similar to NGC slabs. I use them for the few raw coins I own. Bust halves have a diameter of 32.5mm, so you’ll need a slab with an insert for coins with a diameter of 33mm (item #342040). See here:
    https://www.lighthouse.us/downloads/dl/file/id/268/us_capsule_selection_guide.pdf

Amos coin world premier holders are an alternative product.
    https://www.amosadvantage.com/Store/Category/Coins/Holders/Certified-Slabs?page=4
They’re smaller and remind me of the old ANACS soapbox holders. Search for item # CWCH11P for your Busties.

I use 32mm airtites with the black ring, they fit more snug than the 33mm airtites. Just do an eBay search for 32mm airtites, you should find plenty of options.

@ldhair, @johnmilton, @micbraun, @atcarroll, thank you all very much for your help and input. Regrettably, I had failed to mention a second constraint: the Outer Diamater of the capsule has to be limited to 36 or 37mm. (That's because the encapsulated coin will then sit in a pre-drilled opening in a presentation case.) Because of this, capsules with outer foam rings (which will accommodate the coin on the inside) are too big on the outside. Reps at Littleton, Coin Supply Express, and Wizard (and @johnmilton here) have told me that they don't make "direct fit" capsules (without foam rings) for Capped Bust Halves. A part of me keeps saying that that's not possible! So I kept looking and asking anyway. But I'm beginning to see that I may have to accept that as a fact.

If you have a capsule that fits the presentation case but the coin is loose in the capsule, that's an easy fix. I'll wait to type it all out.

I do (see attached pic - bottom row, second from left). But it belongs to the Seated Liberty Half Dollar. That capsule is just a hair too small. This box is part of my Hand-Me-Down bunch of coins. There were 4 different Seated Liberties (50c, 25c, 10c, and 5c). I wanted some other design varities (me and my bright ideas!!!) so I decided to switch out the 50c. Little did I know that the Capped Bust now won't fit into the Seated Liberty capsule. Hahahaha. Thus started my quest. (I think I'll leave the coins alone.) 20190804_164700.jpg
