Hi. Can anyone tell me if a gold 1915 Austrian Ducat or gold 1986 and 1988 Pandas have any numismatic value?
Assuming they are genuine, at least the gold value. The coins in the bezels are almost certainly damaged and will have little if any numismatic premium. Can't speak to the others.
I agree with @Burton Strauss III that the coins in the bezel would be considered as damaged by most collectors. The 1988 100 Yuan Gold coin can be bought on eBay for a little over melt value.
You will probably have to get them evaluated in person at a coin dealer, all pandas that I know of are infact made in china, but not all made in china are authentic.
What Paddy is referring to is the very well known propensity of "artists" in China for making counterfeits. A skillful counterfeiter will often use older date coins to make his molds from( if the fakes are cast ) of for his scans ( if his coins are laser cut, etc. ). The older dates may help persuade his victims the coins are real. I agree with Burton and Thomas about the effect of adding a bezel to a coin could have on the value. Is the coin simply resting in the bezel or is the coin soldered, or otherwise attached, to the bezel? Have you had the gold tested? There are nonintrusive ways to check the gold purity, such as an XRF gun. Many pawn shops and jewelry stores, and especially gold and silver buyers, will have one and most will shoot your coins for free. Good Luck, Welcome to Coin Talk !! and thanks for posting.
Thanks for clarifying that for me. I was confused. Never knew about the counterfeits. Yes, the coin is attached to the bezel. Thanks for the advice.
I was offered 2300 for the Liberty Head set, 1400/Panda, and 595 for the Ducat without the bezel. Does that sound fair? Price of gold that day was 1420. I also had a question about the value of some $20 double gold eagles in average condition. They are 1927, 1923, 1915, and 1908. No mint marks. Offered 1330 each. What do you all think?
Check what the major Bullion dealers are buying/selling Double Eagles for when you decide to sell. As for the Ducat, what's the value, 1 Ducat, 4 Ducat, weight of the Gold? Here's some help:https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...t.TRS0&_nkw=1915+austrian+gold+ducat&_sacat=0 You can also check the price guide on PCGS and NGC. There's probably other places to check but I don't know them all. Good Luck!
