It's very hard to see from your photo. A photo of the entire coin taken directly above it would help a lot. Thank you.
I think you're looking for the DDR on this coin. That is typically found on the words "ONE CENT" on the reverse. I've been looking for years and have never found that one. As Thom suggests, take photos of both sides, crop them to just the coin images, and post the full size images and not the thumbnails. I think you're looking at the "E" in STATES , aren't you? That looks like what is known as Die Deterioration Doubling, which means, as the die gets old and wears out, it allows the hot metal from the strike to ooze out from under the edge of the die, forming what looks like doubling but really isn't considered real doubling at all. It is so common it has no value. Take a look at this link. On the upper left side is a list of topics. Choose the one called "Worthless Doubling" and it explains it very well. When you get a chance, read all of the topics, especially the ones about how coins are made. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties Good Luck and Happy Reading !
Great coin but that is DDR 001. Not 002 like Op is asking about. OP - Compare yours to here: https://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1983&die_id=1983p1dr002&die_state=eds From the picture you provided, yours is NOT 002.
It's too close to call for me, but I'm not exactly seeing it. Looks more like DDD to me. Let the experts speak : @furryfrog02 @paddyman98
@Chema Here's a photo of FS-001 and FS002 http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDR 1983.htm @dwhiz posted a photo of the big one.
That was done with a garbage chinese USB microscope. Like I said, the pictures are awful...but you can still see where the notching is. Especially when you compare it to http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1983&die_id=1983p1dr002&die_state=eds
I'm not a error coin expert so I have no opinion on what you have. Here's another site to check it against: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1983-1c-doubled-die-reverse-rd/3056 You can always take it to a dealer for another opinion. Another option if you're not satisfied with the replies is to send it to PCGS; NGC; ANACS; for verification. good luck with whatever you choose to do. edit Contact @Fred Weinberg; @desertgem; @mikediamond for their opinions.
