    1833 German Dukat

    Wanted to share photos I just took of a new ducat I just received in the mail yesterday.
    A type you don't very often ... It is very prooflike so in hand with very reflective surfaces. The photos don't capture this very well.:eek:

    Very nice. I like how the legend on the obverse literally says "gold coin of Hamburg".

    63 ??? For a coin of 1833, that is PERFECT !!!

    Jerome,

    I was hoping for a little higher, maybe 65, with a Prooflike (PL) designation. IMO the marks in the fields are highlighted only because of the prooflike finish.
    but
    I consider it a very conservative grade by NGC but I'm OK with it.

    For comparision here is one (NOT MINE) that was graded by NGC as MS-62

    Yeah, I'm very suprised it went so low, because it is really superior to the 62 example shown.

    Silly question, but I always thought tht these were restruck at a much later date?

    If not, wow, someone really cared for those pieces.

    Some actually are - such as the Austrian ducats: The ones dated 1915 are all restrikes. But the Hamburg ducats are not ...

    Thanks for the note, I have to remember that:
    Hamburg=Good.
    Austrian 1915 = No Good.
