I got some coins graded and didn't specify sending it to be graded minimum of error. Looks to me like a dent was in the die resulting in the raised metal. Would NGC classify this as an error coin if I resubmitted for consideration as a mint error? Please see photos below or video here: Any thoughts on whether I should resubmit as an error submission would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Other than what appears, IMO, to be a plating blister below the 0 of the date what else do you see that makes you think this is an error coin? http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/miscellaneous.html
It's not an "error coin" I believe it to be a plating blister. To be sure, press on it with a wooden toothpick and if it gives a bit, like a bubble, then it's a plating blister and there's an air pocket under it, between the zinc core and the copper plating. On 2nd thought, it's a W cent you might not want to risk possibly rupturing the bubble and causing further damage. Plating bubbles are planchet manufacturing defects and not mint errors. They are undesirable because the bubble will grow over time and split and expose the zinc, then zinc rot... I'm curious what they graded it at though lol
Nothing more than a plating blister so leave it alone. If it pops, it rots. Since it's now encased you should not have any problems. Not considered a Mint error.
Oh I get that now. He can save that tidbit of information for future reference so he won't wind up with another slabbed plating blister.
