Mint marks were hand punched into each working die by hand. Monday morning error. Not much added value but neat. Thanks for sharing

Before 1990, mint marks were hand punched into each die somewhere below the date on Cents. That location can change. It usually took more than one hammer strike and sometimes, subsequent strikes were not in exactly the same place or rotation, thus producing RPM’s. The position of the mint mark with respect to the date is a useful tool to identify a specific RPM.

The mintmark was punched by hand so the location, while in the same general area, varies. Not an error.

Like others have said the mm was hand punched back then so it varies in location but I do like this one because it is near the device of the coin. Cool find.
