Though not horribly rare this coin is certainly scarce. Though the reverse is a bit rough one can make out Victory standing on a Cista Mystica. To either side are snakes. I have wanted one of these types for a while. It is an interesting type. Our own @Jay GT4 just upgraded his example so he offered this one to me. Thanks very much Jay. Vespasian AR Denarius 75 CE Rome Mint Obv: Head Laureate Right: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG Rev: Victory stg left on Ciista Mystica flanked by snakes; PON MAX TR P COS VI RIC 776 (R) RSC 369, BMC 169 Purchased from Jay Grande July 29, 2019
Nice Andrew! I knew that Augustus had a quinarius reverse like that, but didn't know others did. Great dealings!
Nice job @Orfew ! That is a tough one to find with Vespasian...way cool. I only have an Octavian version. RImp Octavian AR Quinarius 29-28 BCAsia Recepta Victory Cista Snakes Sear 1568
Glad it went to a good home! It's actually the "Savuto Collection" Here's what I upgraded with. Still not great but a nice reverse IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG. Laureate head right. PON MAX TR P COS VI. Victory standing left upon cista mystica, holding wreath and palm frond; coiled serpent to left and right. Rome 75 AD 3.25g RIC² 776 (R). Only 5 specimens in the Reka Devnia hoard Minted in Rome but likely intended for circulation in the East. The reverse copies the earlier quinarii of Augustus and the Cistophoric tetradrachms of Ephesus.
