Thank you everyone for your input! @Eduard got me focused on German States and after showing my wife a few coins that had my eye on, and I bought this coin: 1708 Trier 3 Petermenger (1/16 Thaler). I have since learned that in Trier in the 1600s and early 1700s, they started calling their coins Petermenger (or perhaps Peters in English) after St Peter. I look forward to digging more into the history of this coin and region.
Thanks, and even at VF30, turns out it's a top pop (hopefully no one submits any higher grades any time soon). I originally thought the 3P was Pfennige, but when I looked it up, I was surprised that it was instead Petermenger (and also Petermännchen). I then had to google Petermenger and found a German Wikipedia page to explain it's history. This is a new denomination to me and now makes me want to see how many other oddities for denominations I can find during German States. This is a really cool era of coins; thanks for being the catalyst to get me so interested in them.
It actually looks pretty good for a VF30. And Trier is a special place from a historical perspective. It’s the oldest city in the German speaking region of Europe, also known as “Rome of the North”.
Don't forget to subtract sales tax and shipping charge from the $80, making your target price closer to $70 - the days of sales tax free coins (with very few exceptions*) is over. *The last time I ordered, the only two dealers not charging sales tax in 2019 are Monument Metals in MD and Provident Metals in TX. Hope you got something enjoyable for your eBay$$
I didn't get notified of the thread. Either way I don't shop eBay. Nice looking coin you bought. @Seattlite86
