This coin has seen something: honest wear, some dishonest wear, reducing the size to 15mm (smallest diameter), and the weight to a mere 0.86 gram. (which is even light for a Grossetto) I really like the design of the Grosso's, and combined with a low price of €15.50, I decided to snag it. However, with most of the text being cut of by some dishonest traders, I find it somewhat difficult to attribute, with all Grosso's sharing the same design for a couple of hunderd years. Any help of course appreciated. Feel free to post your Grosso's!
My only example: It is my only example of the Venetian grosso trade coinage. This coin was minted in Venice between 1275 and 1280. Like all of them, the reverse depicts Jesus Christ on a throne. The obverse depicts Doge (Jacopo Contarini) together with the Venetian city’s Saint Mark. The Doge is on the left receiving a tall flag from St. Mark on the right. I would enjoy learning more about your example.
Maybe a local variation from Serbia? See this one for similar weight and overall look: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1201892
A Serbian variation may certainly be possible, considering the enormous number of imitations. Concerning the weight: the coin may also be a half grosso. So far, I've looked at several hunderds grosso's this evening without much success. Still a fun coin
I second the imitation suggestion, either Serbian or Bulgarian (given the weight it could be either). Here's my Bulgarian one. (They all desperately need some sleep...)
