If I was buying I would want it at XF40 with some slight damage. I wouldn't pay anymore than 5USD.

This cent in this condition can easily be found in bulk lots of wheats. I wouldnt pay for this coin on its own let alone 5 bucks. I'd put that 5 bucks towards something much nicer imo.

The reverse might be XF 40, but the obverse isn't.
    VF 35. $3

Those vertical scratches could be an issue. Again the reverse is nicer than the obverse. If it's not cleaned the reverse is 40 and the obv. a little less.
    Perhaps $10.

For 10 bucks, it's not rare or a key date coin.

    The coin business is unforgiving.
The scratches may or may not detail the coin. The reverse looks nice, but my
gut tells me this coin has been cleaned. Perhaps not too harshly.
    $10 is a fair price.

The 1931-S is the rare semi-key date. Yours is a Denver mint. Sorry close but no cigar.

The coins posted are worth maybe a dollar each.

A fairly common date in VF-35 and worth $3.00.

I think that today we are becoming too fussy to look for the hair in the egg and look too much at the details. Our grandparents made collections without the MS65 + fixed or if a coin was washed in the past. Try to look for how many pieces are on sale in 1931-S and at what price, would you be willing to spend? I also like R4 coins in MS65 + conditions but am I willing to spend thousands of dollars ???
