    I picked up this Book last night and ever since I've been trying to figure out if the coin in the Type 2 slot is indeed a Type 2 mintmark. I've studied all the pictures and come to the collusion that both dollars in the Type 1 and Type 2 slots are Type 2. At first I couldn't see a significant difference between them, but when I compared it to the one he had in the "Filled S" slot, it looked like the Type 1. I took 3 pictures of each and put them side-by-side to help compare. I gotta admit though I'm not sure at all and would love to hear others input. I struggled with this and have found it to be one of the tougher ones to distinguish. Now as I'm writing this it looks like the coin in the 1981-S slot is a proof too. Could it be possible the guy had two Type 2 coins in his book? IMG_E0286.JPG Combined.JPG

    Honestly, the pictures are too blurry for me to tell. If you can post clear close-up pictures of both coins, I will tell you which type they are.

    That said, if I had to guess from the pictures you’ve given, I would say that yes, those are BOTH proofs, but also both Type I.

    agree need close ups, each cameo proof coin with the mintmark the 99 p proof does not appear to be a proof. here is mine for comparison.

    Yes, as well as being hard to distinguish, these were also the hardest I've ever had to photograph too. Being proofs the light reflects so easily. I'll post some more that haven't been cropped. In order of the slots they're in;

    No. 1: Type I
    No. 2: Type 2
    No. 3: Filled S 4.jpg 4.jpg 4.jpg

    No, the 99 in my Book is definitely not a Proof.

    Those 3 are ty 1 rounded, a filled S applies to 1979 its more of a square S mintmark. this is 1981 S ty 2 flat. you can see the difference at bottom of S. 1981SMMS003%20%20proof.jpg

    1981 S ty 2 proof. not mine.I don't have one yet. bottom of S is more of a straight line rather than curling upward. they are fairly hard to find.

    Overall pretty nice set, I would put the coins in air tight capsules to protect them, them books are not good for storage.

    Man I have a hard time distinguishing them. There's a proof in the plain 1981-S slot too that I haven't gotten to. It looks like this album is pretty mixed up. I bought it to resale, are you sure it's a Type 2? I don't want to advertise it as so if it's not, and I seriously have a hard time seeing a difference between them.

    Thanks for your help!

    For a 1981 its a ty 1 rounded. if its a 1979 its a ty 2.

    No, an 81 Type II. The easiest way to tell is that on the 81 Type II the loops of the S are different sizes. One is larger than the other.

    Ok ill go with that, my research tells me its ty one. I am in the market to buy one but the roundness of the S does not support it being a type 2, for an 1981, and the verified ty 2 that I had viewed. Ill leave it at that, I trust you.
