Looks legit to me. K,not rly. This was clearly modified,I thought it was quite neat tbh, thought I'd share
Amazing.. This one was done by cutting a hole in the Quarter then inserting a Nickel that was cut down to fit the hole.. Some people have nothing better to do
Back when I first started I used to see things like this all the time (some times with a plug cut out rotated and put back, some with the plug flipped over and replaced, and some like this one with the plug from one coin inserted into a different denomination), then they disappeared. Now this is the third one I've seen this year.
This may have been a teaching lesson for new machinists or tool and die makers. It may have required the use of a lathe or a milling machine and a drill press. Who knows?
Or,not giving enuf credit. I think it's very neat and creative regardless how it was made. If anything,it gets ppl asking about their coins and.... may even spark an interest in the hobby.
Creating coins in this manner can be done in two ways, complicated or simple. I'm with @Cheech9712 on this, the simple way. Look at that coin! There is nothing neat and meticulous about it. Both the nickel and the quarter are highly damaged. I have to look at the reverse to figure out that it's a nickel as the obverse has been completely disfigured. I do agree that something like this could spark an interest in the hobby.
Considering the many ways to make a buck nowadays, it seems a little odd that some enterprising "shortcutster" (my new word - take that Webster) doesn't make some altered coins (marked "copy" or "altered") using much more care and skill than what has been posted. Would definitely spark interest in coins by the unknowing and unwilling simply by seeing an unusual coin. Might even get them to become "educated" by watching BoobTube videos!
" Might even get them to become "educated" by watching BoobTube videos! " NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
