Hello I cross today in my Collection and i Found This KEYDATE COIN. I was thinking in send it to NGC or See what can be the Real Grade for this Coin. The Case says MS-63 DMPL by NNC. but i think in other Companys like NGC or PCGS can be a little Lower. NOTE: The 2 Black Lines of the Reverse are just in the Case not the Coin. Well Here is the COIN Please Make a Fair Grade and a Opinion of Price. Thank you for join me in this Aventure !. Any Suggestions !, lets talk about this Beauty i think is a MS for sure. edited - BST offers not permitted
why are the pics taken from an ebay auction? or some other site? anyways, I hope for the best for you. that is a nice gem if you have that coin. BTW , how did that 1916 buffalo go for you?
wow. it looks nice. I'm no pro at grading Morgans, but you could put a down payment on a new house if it grades MS-62! Crazy how small differences in grades have such a dramatic effect on price. sheesh. You might have a treasure there. Good luck!
IM Editing some Pictures and Playing with Contrast to see better details ... Lets see .... OBVERSE and REVERSE EDITED: (INVERTED COLORS) http://usera.imagecave.com/coincollector0/Obv_inverted.jpg http://usera.imagecave.com/coincollector0/Rev_inverted.jpg OBVERSE and REVERSE EDITED: (Contrast & Light) http://usera.imagecave.com/coincollector0/Obv_contrast.jpg http://usera.imagecave.com/coincollector0/Rev_contrast.jpg Thanks for the Comments, really helps ! BIG QUESTION: CAN GET A MS 60 ??? or 61, 62, or stays at Au ?, i think pass to MS. What did you Think ?.
It appears that there may be some light rub on the Obverse but I do not see anything on the Reverse that would hold it back! In fact, based on a lot of other graded Morgans that I have seen, I would say that NNC may have gotten the grade right! I doubt that it will get a DMPL designation but might go PL. Frank
Unlike most other Morgans from the S mint, this date is not known for being well struck. Given that, I would say that it is conceivable that the coin could grade MS63. But the only way to know would be to send it in. The pics are not the best and pics can easily be deceiving.
i cannot tell from the pics the prooflike status of the coin. GDJMSP is exactly correct on his statement regarding the san francisco morgan strikes on this year. they went to producing some of the finest detail coins(1880,81,82) to this yr in which nearly all the morgan dollars are lightly struck. the field seems relatively clean enough to give it a 63. however, none of the pics reveal what the luster is like in hand, if there is a break in luster, then obviously au. if it qualifies as dmpl or pl then we will certainly need better, non photoshopped pics to tell. regardless, this is an attractive scarce morgan at a fairly high grade. thank you for sharing. i do not give price quotes on a coin , whatever the grade, it is worth exactly what someone else will pay for it. the best source for pricing will come from major auction houses. (coin vs. coin).. thanks again for the pics and nice morgan!...steve
QUESTION: IF is a NNC Slabbed Coin, what Company will be Graded ?. PCGS i think not ... NGC ??? or ANACS ? whats better for this coin ?.
I'm not sure what you're asking here, but I'm guessing you're considering crossover grading to a real TPG... which NNC is not. There is no correlation between NNC "grade" and a real grade from a real TPG. Treat this coin as raw and decide accordingly. Ignore the NNC "grade" entirely. One thing seems clear... it's not DMPL, nor even PL. I'm not sure it's MS.
I see no reason why that PCGS would not do a crossover grading on the coin! It does not appear to be cleaned and there is no damage which would get it body bagged with PCGS and the don't descrimnate on crossovers no matter what holder that it is in! Frank
Pretty tough to tell by the pics, but I think the coin is atleast UNC, and might go PL. Not DMPL IMHO, but it might have a chance at PL. Pics can hide, and show a lot of things, good and bad. But I think the smart thing to do would be to send it to PCGS or NGC. Best of luck to you man! :thumb: Phoenix
It looks uncirculated. If the coin looks like the photos I'd say NNC got the grade at MS-63. DMPL no way, maybe PL but I don't think it will, but again could be photos. I wish I could just come across one in my collection.
Hey C. T. Folks, I copied and pasted the pictures of BUFFALO_DDO's 1884-S Morgan to my PC, cropped and enhanced the pics and what a difference! I am not sure what program he used to edit the pictures but I believe that it really degraded the image of the coin and distorted it's true beauty and grade. (Note: The pictures were cropped and enhanced and were in no way photoshopped as I do not have a program that is capable of doing so and I only used the picture edting software that AOL provides.) In the these pictures, you can better see (what I believe) that the coin should grade at least an MS-63 and is at least a PL but might could come very close to a DMPL (note the Reverse). What do you think about the coin now based on the new pictures? BUFFALO_DDO emailed me for help and I am sure that he would appreciate any comments you all have! Frank
The whole DMPL designation seriously worries me. On NNC holders DMPL is usally code for polished and a clear no grade at a real TPC. The other thing it could be is a California Proof (another form of altered surfaces) which would have a PL/DMPL look to them. Has anyone actually seen the coin in hand? I will withhold judgement until we have an in hand inspection and description to work from.
If it is really an unc, and a PL at that it is a very scarce coin! Also: Cave Troll: please advise, I have never heard of a California Proof. Perhaps it is time for more info.
Cave Troll, I cannot detect any evidence of polishing from these pictures or the originals! The Cameo on all of the devices appears to be fully intact and the fields appear to be mirror or mirror-like. If polished, the Cameo would be removed from much of the devices bordering the fields and would have a shiny, polished and almost mirror-like look to them! I understand what you are saying and would love to see the coin in hand as well! However, there is little chance of that since the OP resides in another Country and you would not want to be shipping such a coin with a potential of a very high value, all around the world for a look see! I instead, advised the OP to join PCGS or NGC and submit the coin directly to them or to send the coin to Heritage Auction Galleries or Bowers & Merena for their assessment and eventual sell, if the coin is what i believe that it iis. Also, like Treashunt, I would like to know what is a California Proof? Could it be anything like a California Stop?! Frank
