1870 CC Eagle, seller didn't disclose or didn't know that it is a CC Nice come up for the buyer. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
PCGS AU 55 = $50,000.00. That coin couldn't sit in the same building as an AU 55. Something very funny about that auction.
But it doesn't matter what we come up with. Someone wanted that bad enough to pay $22,000. Our research doesn't matter now. It's a done deal.
Okay. I collect Carson City coins and I would never pay that for that specific coin. It will never grade a straight 30. That should be obvious. Thanks for the information. NGC says $40,300.00 in the grade of F. What do you grade the coin in question? Don't get me wrong. I would love to have an 1870 in XF 40 (lowest grade I go) but there just seems something about this coin. Look close at the mint mark.
Yes. I posted over on the PCGS board and when I have something of value I'll let you know. One comment was concerned No Slab and No Provenence. Thanks for your help.
There is a feature on eBay now where you can pay NGC for help in authenticating a coin that is for sale on eBay. It is a very good possibility someone or several someones may have used that feature on this coin. They most likely saw the coin at a low Fine details coin and bid accordingly. Quite possibly NGC verified the coin. My comment was meant to spur that conversation on. This type of coin would be a perfect example of the service getting used. If the NGC service was used did that increase or decrease the bid amount? And a few other questions I could think of.
How are they supposed to verify it with any degree of certainty from images of varying quality on eBay?
I know. NGC is respectable but long distance evaluation. Don't know if there's any guarantee like when they slab your coin.
If it’s just an evaluation of the photos, not a chance... at best they’d have a long disclaimer releasing themselves of any liability but I’m just surprised they would offer this kind of service at all. It is a cool concept though.
I posted this on the PCGS forum. Obviously the buyer did get a deal and I was incorrect in my assessment. Concerns were: no TPGS authentication and price (too much to too low). Thanks everyone.
Perhaps the buyer did. I don't think there's any guarantee that comes with it, though. Only a grading credit.
How can I use this service? It would help greatly with my purchases and I would love the peace of mind.
