Nice finds.. Do you have a Metal Detecting permit? What are the rules for your state? I suggest you find out to avoid problems! I started a Metal Detecting club a few years ago and we made sure we had permits. One for New York City and another for Long Island. (I'm wearing the Cross)
I'm not aware of the laws in my state, but, with downtown being mostly historical sites I'm sure it's not allowed. I just walk up and down the surrounding neighborhoods and knock on doors, most are very nice and dont mind. I will def check into that tho,how much was your permit? @paddyman98 I'm surprised you dont need a permit just to walk on the grass in NY,lol
Permits are free in NYC and $40.00 for a year in Long Island. They are neede to make sure that anyone starting the hobby is aware of the rules and regulations. Where they can and can not dig. They have to be presented to the Parks Department personal when asked for. We must discard of the trash found such as old can and caps. and fill up all holes made. People have been sloppy in the past so order must be maintained.
What's funny is,I spent like 350$ on a decent detector,I went and searched without knowing how important having a pinpointer was. Needless to say....i dug a huge hole in the neighbor's yard for a pull tab that took me forever to locate.
Ok fine, theres a chance that it's a Christmas tree but I doubt it. "Theres the fuzz, better bury these buckles b4 we get caught"
I only need a permit if I'm digging on State or Federal land. The State Parks are really picky that you leave no signs of digging but that's not all that hard to do. The Rangers are really friendly as long as you show respect to the property.
It's still illegal in my state unfortunately, for now it's a maple leaf,Haha. That buckle is really well made honestly,it has a maker's mark and some other markings on the reverse side. It weighs a ton too, feels like a lead brick.
