Question on grading

    Yes and yes. The black stuff you mention could be just dirt and grime accumulated through normal circulation or it could be black toning. But trying to clean the coin with soap & water is always - always - a bad idea. Soap leaves a film (sticky) residue on coins that only tends to collect more dirt. It can also cause unsightly toning over time.

    It would depend on the coin and its value. I would recommend searching previous posts about cleaning coins. When in doubt don't clean it. If you need to have it cleaned and are not experienced yourself - have it done professionally.

    type in "cleaning coins" into the search bar, on this page, and you will get so many reasons not too clean a coin, and how many different things people have tried and failed at, so the fastest answer is no there is no way too get that off (safely, without doing something that cant be reversed too the coin)
