Interesting. I understand these had some sort of patina applied but the lines appear to be struck as part of the medal and not scratches to the medal. Seeing longnine009's with the polish lines made me think of mine. Maybe there was a clash or something happened?
Here is the Las Vegas version of the Monte Carlo casino, slot token To complement the real casino's slot token from the previous post
I have seen medals such as yours where lines were applied to the dies. They are straight and uniform not helter skelter like die polish. They probably just run some kind of abrading tool across the surface. I'm not sure what kind of effect they are trying to achieve accept maybe to try and dress them up a bit?
What about medals that have a wide rim on one side and no rim on the other--what's the point behind that? But my favorite is when we are told that tool steel is polished to a very high reflective surface before it is hubbed into a die. Why would anyone do that so that it can be ground off in a half a second?
Interesting token, never seen a combo car wash/pet wash one before, a couple months ago we had a guy fined and jail time for using the car wash on his two pit bulls
My mailbox moved this weekend. The Stephen Album auction and an eBay buy. The eBay one was interesting, the seller sent the wrong medal--a higher priced restrike of a classic Art Deco design. But I wanted this one, original (including the original box) and also in Art Deco, but a slightly lesser known/seen one. Sorted everything out easily, he immediately refunded enough for me to return ship (he only asked for first class, but the amount he sent was enough for a flat rate small box so I did that). The boxes crossed in the mail and both the return and the correct medal arrived the same day. It's my second one with a French Senator inscription. From Stephen Album, two fun finds. One is 'Hygie', a daughter of the God of Medicine (Asclepius) and the Goddess of Healing (Epione). She represents health/hygiene/sanitation/cleanliness. I just liked it. and one random one, the Belgium Touring Club, purchased for the reverse as I love a good globe and, well, Storks.
Here is a double header from a entertainment complex near home. It started out as a golf driving range years ago, and it has morphed into an amusement park, arcade, go karts Indoor year around golf range. They just installed 4 large rides this spring. the second token is also an advertising token with coke on it.
