My first foray into the 1880s Indian Head cents. It's raw. I paid MS62 money for it, but the strike, coloring, and proof-like fields make me think it's a steal. Alas, it does have a shallow depression under the first S and second T of STATES where a planchet flaw was not quite flattened out. And there is a dot of corrosion on the C of CENT. I can live with that. So, wise numismatists of CoinTalk, just how do we tell whether this is a Proof or not? I cannot tell the difference between this one and the photos of 1887 Proofs. Here's a link to information on NGC Coin Explorer: 1887 1C PF.
I only bought this Liberty head gold dollar because it was a bargain. And because I can’t say no to small and shiny gold coins Thanks @Rheingold for the heads-up! It
Please forgive me, but I see nothing imparted from the die which would indicate either. But I'm not familiar with the diagnostics either. I do see PMD expected from a coin in this grade and condition. What am I missing?
This so-called half dollar was part of a collection I recently purchased, so I can't really say what I paid for it. Whatever it was, it wasn't much.
Recently picked up a nice circulation cameo Columbian half dollar and some dark, crusty Morgans. What in the world happened to that 1879-O??? Yikes!
Found this today at work in an office desk caddy organizer among paper clips- 1964! It had been there for several weeks, obverse side down. I just never actually checked it until today.
I'm on work right now, but I just buy bunch of tokens, proof, mint, silver, bronze, medals etc. Price was great. Can't wait to come home and dig
This is a Challenge Coin I recently received. We all know it's a modern medal and it flips right-left in the medallion configuration. Forget the politics, it's a lovely Medallion.
