    Howdy fellow coin peeps,

I recently acquired a nice 1829 Large Cent and that year had several varieties so I'm trying to confirm the variety of my new large cent, plus figure out the grade? I'm still learning how to properly grade copper cents and your detailed opinions are awesome for helping me to hone my copper cent grading skills. :hail:

    Ribbit,
    Toad :)

    Ps: I think it's a Breen 1841 (Newcomb 6) large letter variety:

Without the luxury of checking my ANA Grading Standards, I'll say VF30.

I have the same cent but not in as nice of condition. I would have to say EF 40 maybe even 45. Details are strong in the face and curls. Full dentrils on both sides. Very nice coin - would be great addition to any collection. As far as variety, I don't have my book with me to be able to tell you that.

I posted a link to the variety I think it is on CoinFacts. Just click on it and compare the two. I think I got it right (finally) but I'd like a few second opinions.

Yep - looks like a n-6 to me.

very nice coin toad! I traded my dad for one today, but mine would probably only grade F-12 or so.

OK, now I've checked the ANA grading standards. I think my original estimate of VF30 was pretty close. If anything, it might be better than that.

    Nice piece !

I have quite a few more large cents but I still don't have a camera. I'm looking at cameras on Ebay right now, so I can post more pics on here plus I want to start selling a few coins on Ebay (the fewer the better).

I find it's hard for me to come up off a couple hundred dollars for a digital camera but I don't have a problem spending even more than that on coins, but that's the problem. If I spend a couple hundred dollars on a camera, that's a couple hundred I don't have to spend on coins. That sucks!

I could get a nice early date large cent for two hundred bucks!

I know what you mean - I need a new camera, but it will just have to wait.

There's a real nice Olympus SP-550 UZ 7.1 MP camera I've got my eye on. It will take really awesome macro shots of coins and I know to get a better price for a coin on Ebay, you have to have great pics. Plus, many of my coins are error coins so I need a camera that will provide awesome close-up shots to display the error properly (some I've posted on here with their Ebay pics).

I can't believe how hard it is for me to spend that kind of money on a camera but I spend at least that much each week on coins. I wonder which is more addictive? Ebay or Coin Collecting?

Coin collecting - I have not seen anything I really wanted to bid on in a month. Seems like the coins I like are going for too much. I did win an Draped Bust Half on heritage which I should get tomorrow or Saturday.

I agree on the Ebay price thingy that's been going down lately. I've spent countless days watching certain items, only to see them skyrocket on the last day, well above what I'm willing to pay for them. But now-and-then there's one that seems to not get noticed and I get it below what I planned on paying for it. I really like those! :D

Ps: I just bought a camera finally (BRAND NEW). :D

That'll take awesome macro shots so I can finally post awesome pics of my coins, that I've been promising for weeks. Plus, I only paid $209.00 for it, including shipping and I didn't get it on Ebay. Identical ones on Ebay are going for close to $250.00 + shipping.
