Confused from looking at pictures on E-Bay. Does the small date have the slightly raised 0 on the date ? If so is the large date the normal one ? Thanks
OK thanks, Looks like the large date has the slightly higher 0. Thanks for your time. The nine is a good indication also.
That's not how you know, do extensive research on the date before you buy, high or low date numbers don't determine small date, ebay has many people who don't know how to determine, who try to sell. its the 9 that is the primary number in the date to focus on. it should point at the 0 rather than the S, small date, also the circle on the 9 is oval not round on small date. liberty is also not as pronounced on small.
You will definitely get hosed on ebay if you trust the sellers without doing your own homework, and they don't care, nobody I know would sell a 70-S small date under 20$ that's first clue. unless its beat up, worn down.
The proof is a little different but still the same with concern for the nine, this is small dt proof, the business strike will not have blunt ends on the 9 that points toward the 0 it has a chiseled look on business strike.
Ya, the 0 has nothing to do with small date, the reason is many different ld die sets were used (700 million S coins produced), and the 7 , or 0 may be high or low on different ones from 1970 large dates also the mintmark is in various places don't pay attention to that they did have a lot of rpm s repunched S mint marks, in 1970 however.
