No way to tell for sure from your images. The marks on Franklin's cheek probably keep it from MS-65. So at best, MS-64. But AU is certainly a possibility.
Frankies are tough to grade. But I'd be cool with a 63 on that, providing the fields are not being washed out by the scanner light.
Nice Franlin, 63, 64, around there IMHO. AU is also a possibility, but for me it is tough to tell by the pics. But IMHO, MS-64 at the most, on a good day. Very nice coin IMHO none the less. :thumb: Phoenix
I appreciate everyon's input as much as stainless does, I'm sure, but could you give a reason for your grades, such as, because if this or that it would or would not grade any higher or at least this. Thanks to all. Allen
I thought an MS-63 because it is a very nice coin but has a few light scratches and thats about it..... stainless BTW: thanks for the opinions so far guys
The coin picture is blurry, but it appears to have full mint luster and looks fully struck with nice bell lines. The marks on the cheek distract it from being any higher then MS63. I see some roll friction and I think that's why some say 'possible AU'. If this coin is AU58, by some rare chance, then it appears better than many MS coins.
I said AU because it appears there may be minor wear on the coin, particularly the hair. But given the pics, one cannot be sure. And there are a great many AU58 coins that look a lot better than some MS63 coins. That is almost common.
First thanks for explaining why you choose that grade. Explanations from experienced people such as yourself are gold for me...the person wanting to truly understand and learn to be a good , no, great grader. The above quote still spins my head even though I'm trying desperately to become at least skilled at utilizing the Market Grading System versus the Technical Grading System. I understand why you say what you have said above, yet I find myself being so technical when grading coins, mostly my own. I'm sure over time I'll come around. Thanks again for your invaluable input. Allen
Allen - the reason so many AU coins can look better than low graded MS coins is really quite simple - and it has absolutely nothing to do with the grading really. Many coins graded MS63, especially larger coins like dollars and halves, can have literally dozens of bag marks on them yet have no wear. So they are graded as MS. But take an AU58 coin that has maybe 1 or two bag marks, with just the slightest wear on the high points that is hardly noticeable - and which one looks better ?
