My family has one, always a sad day, when a hole gets dug.

If it really has squared rims , it is a proof ( not intended to circulate) that was spent anyway.

I kept looking at that square rim, but every proof I had seen from 90s was cameo. what happened here, I wonder. does not have nics from other coins from circulation? No S mintmark something funny going on with that coin.

No I cant be a proof, as the rim is a bit off center. AND no S mint mark. The rim is better defined than the one @Autoturf showed us. It is not mirror finish, it is in between business and proof finish.

Ive studied mine more, the lines we see are very minute under scope, probably rub off with a thumb I think @furryfrog02 is correct its out of a mint set recently PICT0002.jpg , and the slight Mis aligned obverse die makes your rim look more pronounced, mine is certainly squared off more than in first picture? what do you think?

Yes, it does look more like the rim on Meow's penny now. Put it back in the cello, it turn into something else. Maybe into a nickel?

lol, its just a cent, never be worth more. I touched it already, got tired of being careful with a coin that has no future. I did put it back, well I enjoyed that episode, thought we were on to something. like a one of a kind of some sort. or a Chinese fake.

Hmmm, maybe Meow will clean it off with acetone and put it in a snaplock. Its just so pretty!

Ha! Meow has just found an imperfection in it. When Meow put it in a snaplock Meow noticed it has a few degrees of hub rotation. So lined up obverse side looks square to the holder. Flip it over, and the memorial is not square to holder.

If I dumped my surplus pennies on the bank there would be a lot of near mint coins going back to the mid fifties ending up in rolls.

As I sort for my great grand children I am finding stuff that is not worth holding. I kept so much stuff because I always wanted a coin shop. That stuff is going back a little at a time.

There might be members here who would love to have such things. Maybe you should offer them for sale here.

    · Your Great Grandpa Henry 1942

    · Your Great Great Grandpa and Grandma 1914 and 1925

    · Coins that were minted at least 100 years before you were born

    · Some coins that are 110 to 120 years older than you

    · One each of most all coins made during the last 100 or more years. Some from the 1800’s. These are matched to the dates of your parents and grand parents birth year as much as possible.

Meow really likes these. Meow finds the keelboat one is the hardest to find. Oh and on a unrelated item, you can relate to. Meow broke down and bought a set of those bullion proof Maple/W Liberty sets. Meow had to go into debt to pay for it.

We think its from a mint set. So, someone busts a mint set penny out of the cello. Spends it once, or takes it directly to the back. It gets wrapped by the coin vendor. Meow gets it CRH. It survives being spent and wrapped once without any major scratches or dings. Meow puts in in snaplock holder. End of the line.
