VF30 BN. S-295 R-1. Hard to find nice ones. I like it ! Intermediate die state; Sheldon specifically mentions the die break starting at S11 and arcing through the bottom curl. Sometimes it goes all the way through the "8" and on to the rim. This doesn't appear to go that far, so this die still had some life in it. Not one of the rarer large cents, but good early copper has been scarce.
Not rare as a variety but classic heads as a general rule DO NOT come with nice surfaces. This is a VERY nice cent
CLEANED OR NOT. That a is a nice on for the grade. Most all the old coins have been cleaned atone point of another. It all boils down to how much and how bad. That dosnt look bad to me. But I would try doing something about that green gunk thats looks to be setting in. That might be the reason some one tried to clean it in the first place.
1814 Classic Head Large Cent Variety Plain 4 Grade=F-12 to VF20 It has a nice strike for this year and a full LIBERTY. It appears a die crack runs from the 8 to the third star of the right rim. I do not detect a cleaning, and the coin appears to be in an original state of preservation.
That was one of the reasons I was confident calling it genuine. The die crack matches Sheldon, and my guess is it's difficult for a counterfeiter to copy die cracks (or they might overlook it all together). Any thoughts on that, guys ?
Everyone praises your coin, and rightly so. That is a nice example of a classic head cent. As someone noted, these do not often come on nice, smooth planchets. I grade it F15 to VF 20. Congratulations! Eduard
