I spent a little time in the roasting heat and humidity (98 with a heat index of 108!) this afternoon trying to upgrade some of my coin photos in the natural light. I think these turned out quite a bit better than the original pictures I took. Do any of you have any before/after pictures? If so, show em off First up: THRACE, CHERSONESOS Hemidrachm 386-338 BC Obverse: Forepart of lion right, head reverted Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square with alternating raised and sunken quarters; monogram beside pellet in one sunken quadrant, amphora in the other Before After Next up: Kyme, Aeolis AE 10mm 350-250 BC Obverse: Eagle standing right Reverse: K-Y to left and right of cup with one handle Before After Third THRACE, Bizya Philip I AE28 AD 244-249 Obverse: Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right Reverse: Asclepius standing facing, head left, leaning on serpent-entwined staff Before After Last but not least Julius Caesar AR Denarius 49-48 BC Obverse: CAESAR in exergue, elephant right, trampling on serpent Reverse: Simpulum, sprinkler, axe and priest's hat Before After
Here is another one. The second one is definitely a huge improvement. The first one looks like what a hippie on an acid trip would see. Before... After....
Nice work. The silver one seems a bit too bright but still a huge improvement. Incidentally, I spoke with a photographer today who claimed she used black velvet as the backdrop for photographing jewelry.
Thanks. You’re right, the hemidrachm is a little bright. I didn’t use anything to adjust the color/brightness. Just the coin in hand and then clip the picture and paste it onto the background. I worry about over editing my pictures.
