Just thought I would vent a bit, not that anyone would care, but maybe someone else had a similar problem and could share how it was resolved.

I am one of the very small minority that collect first spouse coins and against my better judgment, I bought the latest Monroe FS coins. The UNC was beautiful, but the proof had what appeared to be defects on the planchet before striking and for that price, they better be perfect! As with the first FS coins to be released last year, I didn't have the luxury to send them back or I would never see my coins again.... but now, heck, nobody is collecting these so I have very little worries.

Fedex'd it back March 28th, received and signed at the warehouse in Memphis on March 30th (even though I paid for priority overnight). I called that week - CS rep said they hadn't received them yet. Called the following week, CS rep tells me same thing. Call back last week and CS rep says for me to call back next (this) week to follow up. So I call back this morning and they still don't have any record of them. So through FedEx, I was able to print out the tracking info and the sig of the person who signed for it. I faxed it to the second CS rep that I spoke with and they tell me that they will "investigate" and I will need to call them back next week. They should be the ones calling ME back! But never the less, I will do it. I probably won't receive my coin back for another 2 months. I am even trying to prepare myself for never seeing the coin back at all. What a shame - the mint used to be so helpful, now they are as useless as an ahole on my right elbow. :goof:

If its any consolation my returns were acknowledged by the system about amonth later. lets not talk about getting the replacement coins this thing is a disaster. my suggestion is to use reg mail and send the coins and not fedex it. fedex is not a service to use when sending coins ;)

if its any consolation i had given up on my coins i was getting tired of following with the royal mint the us mint and the indian mint not to mention dealers. i am a collector not a investor dealer if it takes up too much of my time its not worth it i am now getting more masd and irritated as i type this. i think i need a break from coins. today my preferred dealer showed me 500 modern comems and i got only 2 coz they were the only ones that met my criteria :( i need a good wrestling match where is clembo?

Why do you recommed regular mail and how long did it take the mint to ship you your coins back?

registered mail not regular mail and with insurance thats the best and the sfest way to ship coins. fedex and ups are not even supposed ot deliver coins. remmebe rthis is only for you to send coins to the mint. it doesnt matter how the mint sends the coins to you thats their problem. how long the mint takes to ship your coins :D:D:D you have better chances of winning the lottery my 3 coins bald eagle set took 3 months to arrive :) and my first spouse coins have come beteween 2 days to 6 weeks (all fedex) so if you really want an answer you will have to take a tarrot reading for me for $500 everytime :D

they are coins that idiots like the op and me er i mean collectors like OP and me buy so the mint feasts on us. for some spouse coins i have both the proof and the unc how stupid is that

Like my father-in-law says, "Just go into the bathroom and bang on something with a hammer and get the pain over with. It would be a lot easier and cheaper!" The same can be said about the oposite sex as well!

Us West Virginians have a lot of crazy expressions.

If I have to explain, then you'll never understand. :kewl:

Only use Registered if you absolutely care about that one specific item and a replacement of equivalent quality or value won't do.

Use insurance if you would be content to get a check for the equivalent value should the coin be lost or stolen.

Since in this case you clearly did not want the coin being shipped, insurance is sufficient.

If you dont use registered the way your mail gets handled in not secure (as the general will attest) so unless you want to be filling out insurance claims i would recommend registered for valuables

    Update on missing FS coin:

For the past two weeks I have gone back and forth with the mint about the missing coin. Today I had to fill out a claim form and fax it back to them with all my shipping confirmation details which included the signiture of the guy who signed for the coins. They said after they received the info, they will start an "official" investigation. Could take 6-8 weeks. See you all then.

Registered mail is handled much more securely and also provides much more detailed tracking information. If something is sent registered it's much less likely to get lost in transit, but if it does get lost in transit, you're much more likely to find it compared to priority mail.

That's all irrelevant to this case. I'm sure that neither Fedex nor the US Postal Service would pay on an insurance claim for this piece. You have proof that the item was delivered to the mint so it should be their problem. I'm surprised they're giving you such a run around.

Update: Just received notification today from the mint that they are crediting my account back the amount for the proof fs coin. Thank God! It took them nearly a month to figure things out and find the coin. Now lets see how long it take them to ship it back out.
