Now you can go visit the Bahamas! Or simply start a world coin collection Wait.. A brand new roll of Philadelphia roll? As in 2019 Cents?
The mint must be making the Bahama coins for them , and the coin got mixed into the roll somehow . That is a nice looking penny . Dillan
I was about to ask the same question. @PassthePuck - When did the US Mint start acting as a middle man for the Bahamas? Chris
I'm guessing this means "a roll I just got" or "a newly-wrapped roll" where all the other ones were 2019-P. I'm guessing it does not mean "I bought this roll directly from the Mint". Let's please not give more encouragement to the "off-metal error" visitors who think every corroded or replated coin must be a rare and valuable example of the Mint striking a coin on some sort of foreign planchet...
The Bahama pennies are the same size and weight as US. And their money is 1:1 with the dollar. Here are their specs: Metal Copper plated Zinc Weight 2.50 g Diameter 19.00 mm Same as ours. It will fit in a coin acceptor as a penny.
It's hard to believe you found it in a new roll of 2019 P Cents. Quality control at the Philadelphia Mint is exceptional. I've seen it with my own eyes. No way a 2004 Bahamas Cent could get mixed in with the batches of newly minted Cents.
Yes, it's not from the mint. I'll get that from Loomis. A roll with almost all new quarters, and 1 or 2 others.
Most new coin hunters do not realize that the rolled coins from bank sources are rolled by a 3rd party such as Guarda, Loomis, etc. that sells the service to the banks, It is natural to think the mint rolled them, and it is true sometimes the mint does sell to individuals rolls directly thru their customers, at a premium over over face. The wrappers in that case are labeled such. Jim
I have a few laying around somewhere. They're neat to see once in a while. They are actually, technically, wider than a US Cent by 0.05mm but the same weight as copper US Cents. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces3159.html
You are wrong. The current current copper plated zinc cents from the Bahamas are the EXACT same size as ours. Same weight, same diameter, same metal. Even the earlier ones that are 95% copper are almost exactly the same weight and diameter. Why don't you look it up instead of spreading mis information? Or prove your ridiculous claim. As for the post above mine, they make copper plated zinc cents now. I already gave the specs and they are identical.
This coin was found in a roll of US pennies. IT'S THE SAME SIZE. Country The Bahamas Type Standard circulation coin Years 1985-2004 Value 1 Cent 0.01 BSD = 0.010 USD Metal Copper plated Zinc Weight 2.50 g Diameter 19.00 mm Thickness 1.40 mm Shape Round Orientation Medal alignment ↑↑
I see regularly encounter Bahamian coins here (SE Florida). I also frequent the islands from time to time. Here is a pic of a Bahamian penny I came across today, and a penny I got in change today. They are clearly not the same size. Not even close.
So I solved the problem of the too small / too big planchet.
