Nice! Here's a Septimius Severus with a similar reverse and with a couple of POWs for good measure: Septimius Severus, AD 193-211. Roman AR Denarius, 3.26 g, 19.7mm. Rome, AD 202. Yeah you know if it isn't one thing in life that seems to take up all my time I find another. But this time it's something I asked for.
Nice one Greg! And, HEY! You made me remember I HAD that one, also! Lost coin in my mind: RI Trajan AR Denarius 98-117 CE Trophy over Dacian Captive RIC II 222 (My Trajan only captured ONE guy...)
Another fun coin with a bad @$$ reverse! You can always tell it is Trajan cause of the long head and thousands letter description. Trajan, We get it already. You're a great ruler. Go build a column about it or something... Trajan RIC 52 Traianus (98-117 AD). AR Denarius (19 mm, 2.94 g), Roma (Rome), 101-102 AD.Obv. IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM, laureate bust right, drapery on left shoulder.Rev. P M TR P COS IIII P P, Mars walking right, carrying spear and trophy.
Very nice addition to your collection ominus1. It's really nice. I dont have one with a Dacian trophy, but i have one with a captive. There seem to exist quite some variants of the DACCAP reverse, with depicting dacian captives, or dacia herself. The one with Pax holding her foot on a Dacian captive has quite a stronge image. Don't have that one, but would like to one day.
I have been coin collecting since childhood, and have been trying to locate information about one of the coins I have, without luck, for a very long time. I am looking for information on where to go to find info about the "captive" coin described above, as this is the one I have, and do not have any idea where to turn to obtain info. Would anyone be able to assist me?
I have one of the Denarii of Trajan with the trophy RIC 147 Woytek 268b 107-108 A.D. 3.65 grms As well as one of the Dacian captive types RIC 98 var aegis on far shoulder Woytek 283c 108-109 A.D. 3.62 grms
