Dell Loy Hansen purchased this coin and an overpriced six figure 1931-S MS67+ FB dime from the same sale.

The same D.L. Hansen that she slammed as owning inferior, over-hyped coins on the CU threads???

If so, I find that truly hilarious. Wonder if he'll use Laura's return policy?

Same one. And that probably had something to do with her banning over there as well as limited hype of this coin (as mentioned earlier in this thread).

Not really what she did, but yes that coin and the other super high priced dime both ended up listed in his sets.

I suspect he knows the provenance by now, and how many times it got upgraded. If so that would also confirm my suspicion that "he just doesn't care" as long as PCGS and CAC have given their approval.

Maybe he does, but the thread on there was poofed fairly quickly. And I doubt he checks in over here.
I do think you're correct and he doesn't mind with this coin (maybe it would be different if he bought something similar to that Proof Bust Half that was proven to have been altered after previously being in a details holder).

Given that several CAC almost top pop coins have been replaced by top pops or higher pops the PCGS number seems to be the most important. I certainly have questions and get confused by his strategy from many of the moves, but he's worth so much money it doesn't really matter to an extent

    He's literally posted there before

I'll admit that my use of the word "over" in sentence number two was unnecessary and likely caused some confusion.

There are inherent discrepancies in opinions. However, the problem exists where these opinions are treated as God-ordained fact and the existent of discrepancies/inconsistencies is completely ignored. This is what the TPGs want with the market.

Buy the holder (and sticker) and not the coin!

That's the guy. Laura and her business partner then proceeded to trash him publicly and implied that he is an idiot/foolish. She even publicly disowned the sale saying that she is not proud of it. Those two are like Dumb and Dumber. You don't trash the rich guy spending mega bucks in one of your sales. You don't go to the bathroom where you eat - even my dog understands that!

    Wow...

Is she also trashing the underbidder(s)? They are just as crazy.

I love this post. She and her partner have trashed me repeatedly on the PCGS site. I once bought a $50,000 coin from them and placed a five figure bid in one of their auctions and was the underbidder. I won’t look at anything they offer and would not pay them more than face value for anything they have for sale.

Why would a business intentionally antagonize a good customer? It’s the darnest business model I have seen. It should be a case study at the Harvard Business School. Maybe they are on to something. o_O

I've only had one interaction with them. I had a big time coin (IMO) and they poo-pooed it and said they would estimate it at $3k. I sold it privately for $20k and felt like the smartest guy in the room. Normally, however, they wouldn't care about the coins I buy and sell. I don't deal in "legendary" coins, so I don't blame them for not caring about business from guys like me.

  17. I can't see how they grade coins this high that have that nasty "toning". If am going to buy something that is a 66 or higher, it better be spotless. I'm just not into all the "toning" (corrosion) that appears on some of these high grades. When people look at my collection and see one of the few toned coins I have they always say "what happened to that one?" They never say, "hey that looks great with all that color on it."

Toned vs. White is just a matter of taste and opinion.

Some people like beer and others like wine. Me, a beer will do as a filler when I can't get Scotch. That pretty much sums up my taste. Don't ask about my opinion.

I think that the coin is attractive, but I’m not a big fan of the spotty toning that is on the obverse from 9 to 12 k. When you are paying this much money, you have to love and want to marry a common date coin in the “ultimate grade.” I don’t love this dime.

I am not a big “toner guy,” but I do like this one. I find this piece attractive. I bought it years ago for $125. For that price, I don’t care that it is “dirty.”

Of course he's an idiot for spending 364K.
If that coin was a 70 it wouldn't be worth 364K.
