    Worse than that - road kill. I'd even be concerned that it is a total fake.

    Possible metal detecting coin, could be salt water damage.
    Salt water will turn it black and then the cleaning will look like that.

    i agree that it most likely was a metal detector find - possibly at a beach. clearly this coin is being offered for the collectors who can't stand having an empty slot in their folder or album but don't mind having one in their wallet ;)

    I am very appreciative for the advice and insight provided here as I venture into the ebay world of coin buying... Caveat Emptor.

    (sure hope I spelled that correctly.)
