Proposed elongated coin project- what do you think?

I've sent out some email inquiries on this project.

I will likely have 75-100 rolled out on Mercury dimes. Then another 200-500 on Wheat cents.

This is only a rough sketch, and since all I have for photo editing is MS Paint, I couldn't do the curved fonts, but you (and the manufacturer) should hopefully be able to get the basic idea.

    Rough sketch:

The main design element is a family crest- the Scottish clan badge of Clan Robertson (my maternal line).

This is an SVG file from the Wikimedia Commons, so it should be covered under Fair Use, and I think it's the right vector filetype that these companies like to use (I only just recently read up a little on vector graphics).

    Robertson clan badge- SVG file:

I would then issue the final product in printed and hand-signed flips with limited edition numbering.

What do you think? I think some silver elongates would be special.

I don’t see anything wrong with it. I assume you’re using well circulated coins. I’ve got a bunch from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park somewhere in my personal rubble.

Great idea as an elongated coin collector ,now you have me wanting one done in my family crest of arms.

Yes, the host coins will be average circulated common-date pieces.

I'll let you know how it goes. Send you free samples, if you remind me when they come out. I was talking to one company who quit answering my emails, so now I have inquiries out with two others.

@Paddy54 @lordmarcovan I have an acquaintance (someone from an online club that I'm a part of) who owns all the technology and machines required for creating elongated coins. Please let me know if you want me to send him an introductory email for you.

Not sure what purpose they serve but I think it's cool. I also find it interesting that you want to use older coins to elongate and I think exonumismatists of the future will enjoy them as well.

You could say that about quite a large percentage of my holdings. :p

Sounds like you are not doing this as a money maker. Guess it depends if cost is worth what you are wanting to do. I have been on the lookout for a used machine so I could make my own. Just missed out on on on ebay.

I passed on purchasing the Penny Passport Book. I just use 2 x 2 flips, place them in sheets and the sheets are in a 3-ring binder. Works great.

Lots, it's you collection so do as you please but it sounds wonderful to me.

Just a thought... don't use any post 1982 Zincolns… they corrode and fall apart after "squeezing" in one of those things.
But I love the idea of having a family crest.

No worries about that Zincoln trash.

I have been told that metal flow is not as good with silver dimes, so the image transfer may not be 100%, but it's still doable.

The money is paid and the dies are being prepared. My elongated coin project is about to become a reality. Final design attached below.

This 2019 run will consist of 100 pieces rolled on Merc dimes. Then 400 on Wheat cents (200 holed and 200 unholed).

Maybe a future series in 2021 or 2022 will be done on ND T1 Buffnix- who knows. I bought several rolls of those for a project like this a few years ago but then sold the coins when the project failed to get off the ground. This time it's going to.

You probably will have good luck using silver dimes. The one time I didn't have a penny, I used a newer clad dime, but due to it being minted on a harder metal, some of the details are missing due to the metal not spreading like a cent.
