I have been slow buying coins this year (actually just until this month + I have more coins on the way right now than i have bought all year ), but here is one of my newest coins.. a Henry III Penny Moneyer Ioh’s, 1.38g, obv HENRICVS REX III rev. IOH’ SON LVN DEN Ex Lord Stewartby Collection, acquired from SNC, June 2004, HS1678
Who did you buy it from? I bought a couple of British hammered coins recently for my wife's birthday and am interested in buying more. Who are some good sellers?
That is a great Henry III penny @arnoldoe with an absolutely wonderful bust of the king. Class V has some of the best coins of his reign, but class 5f is my favorite. Congrats on such a nice coin. If you have never seen it, I would recommend the website Rob Page has devoted to the long cross coinage of Henry III: www.henry3.com I haven't purchased many coins this year, though I did pick up this awesome penny of John from @Orfew
I think it was just for looks. Off Ebay from a Canadian seller, who currently has nothing for sale.. but it was from a lot of coins sold by Spink in 2016, + It is my first medieval British hammered coin..
Beautiful coin! I don't believe the pellets have any significance. @TheRed thank you for sharing that site, it looks like a great place to learn more about Henry's.
Y'all have nicer Henry III's than mine, but here are mine, anyway. 1216-1272 Henry III 'Long Cross Penny' Sp. '98 1369 1216-1272 Henry III 1250-1272 Class5a3 Spink '98 1367 (Ret.) 1216-1272 Henry III 1247-50 Spink '98 1364 (Ret.)
What a lovely wife you have. As wonderful as my wife is, if I bought my wife coins for her birthday, I imagine that I would get 'cold shoulder' for dinner for some time to come. (Not worth the risk.)
