My husband has this coin and I thought I’d post it to find out if it’s one of those magician coins or not I can’t seem to find the line on the edge!?????? I appreciate any input. I’m so glad this forum is here For us newbies.
Its usually not on the rim, its on one side or the others just within the rim on one of the faces. Hard to tell with small photos , but appears to be the last photo. They are usually hard to tell, us a magnifier. Jim
Thanks Jim.... if I may, I have a couple of questions. The photos I am taking I am using a microscope. Before I upload my question I click on them to see if they are clear and can be enlarged (mobile touch screen). Is there a certain size or tool I should use to provide better pictures to go along with my questions? Last question. The error questions pertain to this forum. I have heard the term variety is that a whole different forum? I believe errors are to do with the mint process. But varieties are to do with pre-damage or maybe even post damage the mint. Let me know if I am wrong. Thanks to all for this AWESOME brain trust we can tap into. If anyone else has an answer to these questions feel free to let me know. Tina
People can have different dividing lines between varieties and errors, so mine is for collecting standards , it is a variety if intentional effort or unintentional effort caused a change from the expected master the mint used originally, up to the die being used hitting the coin metal. After that is an error if the difference is caused by something unintentional by the mint ( some of which are so common to not be of extra value to some that are worth a large premium) . There is no separate "variety" forum, and I suspect it is because (1) People new to coins do not understand the process itself and could not differentiate, (2) Many can not tell a human altered coin or one that was on a parking lot grit for years from a real variety or error , (3) have different set points for the difference than I use. On the photos, I download the photos to Photoscape which is free and all can be changed and then saved and moved to the forum thread. If you look at the area just inside the rim about at the U in PLURIBUS to the M in UNUM in both coins you can see the line outside the denticles ( teeth like) and inside the rim.
