Oh I need help. My grandfather had this little red box with the Vatican crest on it inside 4 tokens? medals? about the size of a dime. 1SIDE A .IOANNES XXIII POINIFEX MAXIMVS SIDE B. OBOEDIENTIA ET PAX (AT TOP) PICTURE OF THE CREST 1958 1063 2. SIDE APAVLVS VI PONT MAX SIDE B. PICTURE OF MICHELANGELO'S" LA PIETA" now that the general idea, won't bore you with the other two ,they are all gold toned. Any ideas on where they are from? Any help would be appreciated.
Welcom jumble. (If our IDs had to describe our storage areas/habits mine would have to be "desk/garage/backyardshedjumble". You appear to have a set of medals, probably obtained at a gift shop in Vatican City. If they were a set of Vatican City coins they would each have a denomination, the same date, reference to the same Pope, and be of differing sizes. #1 says "John 23rd, Highest Pope" on one side, and "Obedience and peace" on the other. He reigned from 1958-63. #2 says "Paul 6th, Highest Pope". His reign was 1963-78. Just a guess, but do the other two refer to Popes John Paul 1st (33 days in 1978) and John Paul 2nd (1978-present)?
