Reno - Big Ben Hover Dam - Grand Canyon Or Pressed Pennys as they might otherwise be known. This is my collection of 4, all 4 I have aquired in the actual place depicted on the pennys. A great momento for a coin collector such of myself. If ever I am visiting a new place and happen upon one a coin pressing machine, I am sure to get it done. I'd be interesting it seeing if anyone else has any of their own examples!?
my son has a growing collection of elongated cents. no pictures, but the latest is an SR-71 from the Air and Space Annex in VA. -Steve
I have a few elongated cents. My favorite is a 1933 Chicago World's Fair elongated cent that I found metal detecting in Colorado.
My current EC collection consists of (250) on unc '74 & '62 coppers, (150) on copper/zinc, (72) on reprocessed '43 steelies, plus (17) asst. on quarters, blanks and dimes. With the exception of a few that I recvd from the EC collectors club, I have pressed every coin in my collection. Oh, and that doesn't include all the extras I have.
I have a few of the elongated cents and a couple of elongated quarters. Also an elongated cent album. Lou
I have one somewhere that I had made in Yosemite National Park a few years ago and I have a few from Gettysburg, PA, where we frequent at least once a year.
I always carry a few pre-1982 pennies in my pocket in case I find a new penny smasher that I haven't seen before. I've never liked the look of a squished zinker.
Cool thread, I collect them also, but only have a cpl. I just won 4 elongated quarters on Ebay, not here yet, I'll post pics when they arrive.
This website is fantastic. Locations and even detailed descriptions of where abouts at those locations. On it I have found the locations and images to all the coin presses I used. Even discovering presses In places I might frequently visit...I'll be sure to visit them.
I always check the locator site before I travel to see if any machines are in the area. You can usually pick up EC's at coin shows also antique malls and flea markets are a good place to find older pieces. Another good website for info on EC's. http://www.tecnews.org
Wow, I'm even envious of this one. I actually saw a blackbird take off in Okinawa in '69 coming back from 'nam. Wow. We were on the tarmac waiting for the Freedom Bird and heard this roar. We looked up and saw this low black rascal coming down the runway picking up speed. It got to about mid-runway, tilted it's nose up at about 45+ degrees, and basically disappeared . . . it was that fast and explosive. We all stood around with our mouths open. And realize that we were a tough audience - 200 odd returning from vietnam and B-52 arclights, spooky, phantoms, 16" shells from the New Jersey - er, we weren't easy to impress - but the black bird sure did the trick. Simply the most impressive airplane I've ever seen. rono
I'm glad there are crazies like me that collect elongated cents. ;-) When wifey and I went to disneyworld in fla, I took two rolls of brand new pennies and a couple of rolls of quarters and hit every penny-smasher in the kingdom. Must have been a couple of dozen different. Cripes, you need Snow White and all the dwarfs. ;-) I get them whenever I see them and have about 40-50 different. Anyone know a good way to display them? thanks, rono
It is cool that others collect these. I personaly don't, I collect shot glasses when we travel, but we always get them for our kids and thier penny passports are getting pretty full. I think they are a nice momento from places we visit.
Wow thanks for the locator. My family and I have Quished pennies (As my daughter still calls them) for many years. Its always fun to go back and take a look where you've been. It alway brings back great memories. We have done 49 together as a family. We have a deal that we can't add to the collection unless we are all there. One of the better ones we have is from the Meteror Crater Site in Winslow AZ.
I have one from The Tower of London. I guess I must have used a 2 pence coin? It was about 5 years ago and I don't remember, errrr....
