As I understand you, you still have several months 'till the Bday. If you make a concerted search on eBay, it is very possible to find what you want for about $11.00 and free shipping. Here's how :
Find every note that meets your requirements.
Put everyone of those notes on your watch list.
As any note goes above your price limit, drop it from your watch list.
Continue to search for, and add, all new notes you find that meet your criteria.
Continue to drop off all notes that surpass your criteria.
Continue to do these two actions EVERY DAY until you get what you want.
    Do not get impatient.
    Do not give up.
If you carry out this CONCERTED search as I've described, you WILL find what you are looking for.

I learned long ago that " Anything worth having, is worth working for. "

    Yes, it will take time.
    Yes, it will take effort.

    That's why it's called a CONCERTED search.

    Thanks for the eBay tips.

I might just go to the bank and take out a wad of $10 notes and search through them and keep trading them in to another bank until I find what I'm looking for. I wonder how many $10 notes I would have to go through until finding it.

"M" was 2013 so there should still be lots of them around, "B" is NYC and I'm on the East Coast so there's that too. And then according to the website (http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/) there should be 3.84 million $10 star notes with MB as a Prefix. Between all the factors, I think my chances of finding one are pretty decent.

Like you said, I have a couple of months until his birthday, so, I have lots of options now.

If you're on good terms with your banker and/or bank tellers, you might ask them to keep an eye out for you. Many tellers will do that and since they see so much money every day, the chances are very good that they could find what you're looking for.
Be sure and let them know it's for a child's birthday gift.
Who can resist helping a child, especially for their birthday?
    Good Luck.
    Perseverance is the key.

Thanks. But I've already asked them to look for rolls of new quarters for me on my quest for a "W" Quarter. So far I've had no luck getting any new rolls this year. I have a feeling that the head teller, who knows me, either is herself a collector or has family or friends that have signed her on before me. But I keep asking the tellers who all know me, and frankly, I think they're sick of me asking already. It's a busy bank, they are all overworked and underpaid, and I feel like there is just so much I can ask for in terms of special treatment. Plus, I CAN spend the $20 bucks to buy the $10 note on eBay, I just don't want to while I still have time. Thanks.

Go back to Plan A. Check every note on eBay that fits your requirements until you get what you want.
A child's birthday gift is worth the effort.

    Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to let you know that a member by the name of “Swerths” was kind enough to find me not 1, but 2 of the notes I was looking for!

He private messaged me, I paid him for them and he mailed them to me and below is a picture. I’m going to give them to my nephew, whose initials are “MB” on his 10th Birthday next month.

This was a great CT experience for me (as opposed to some others) and I want to Thank all of you for all your advice and help!

The picture smooths out the creases. I'm going to put them under some heavy books for a couple of weeks, that should help. There is no writing on them and no tears! Yes, it's a definite win win and I'm so grateful to Swearths for this!

This was a great experience for me.

I wonder if my idea will be replicated by anyone - gifting kids circulated star notes with the prefix being their initials. Not all name initials have been printed on notes of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 denominations, even if you include 50, 100. But when it does work, it may be a nice way to get kids interested. This birthday is special for my nephew because he's turning 10 and I knew there were $10 star notes out there from the recent past with his initials on them.

If anyone else tries this, I would love to know how it goes.

Well now, I haven't done this for any children...yet....but as a part-time (I'm a retired land surveyor/construction inspector) retail cashier, I do give star notes I come across in the register to customers in order to get them interested in coin and currency collecting. I also encourage everyone to visit Coin Talk !! , join up, and learn more about the note I just gave them.
Now, these notes I give people back as part of their change are nothing more than average circulated star notes worth only face value, but I encourage them to keep the note, take care of it (not fold it, stain it, write on it, etc.) and use it to start their own collection of currency, which once begun, I hope will lead to a real enthusiasm for collecting, both currency and coin.
